Homeless One
Homeless One Birmingham supports those experiencing homelessness with vital services and compassionate care.
Outreach
The StreetVet Portsmouth team, supported by StreetVet's Clinical and Volunteer teams, deliver at least two outreach clinics a month across the city. The StreetVet Portsmouth outreach launched after we saw more clients travelling from the area to our Southampton outreach. We then noticed a higher level of need for support in Portsmouth so moved the outreach location from Southampton to two very busy support services in Southsea and Buckland.
Through consistent, compassionate veterinary care and support, the team helps protect the vital human–animal bond, enabling those experiencing homelessness with their pets stay together across Portsmouth, accessing support when they need it most.
Volunteers at each outreach location work collaboratively, sharing leadership, tasks, and responsibilities across administration and service delivery to ensure the outreach runs smoothly.
What We Do
Each StreetVet outreach team delivers free accessible veterinary care directly into the community. Outreach clinics are held on the streets, in hostels or other homelessness support facilities. Our teams of volunteers take the practice to the pavement, meeting people and pets where they are.
Anything that can be done in a consulting room, our volunteer vets and vet nurses can do at an outreach clinic, helping remove barriers to care while building trust and continuity.
At each outreach clinic, teams may provide:
Full health checks and clinical assessments
Vaccinations and microchipping
Preventative treatments, including flea, worm and parasite control
Diagnosis and treatment of illness or injury
Dispensing medications and providing follow‑up care
Blood sampling, urine testing and basic diagnostic procedures
Sampling and monitoring of lumps or wounds
Advice, guidance and education to support responsible pet care and ownership
Provision of daily pet essentials, including food, coats, collars, leads and toys
This outreach based approach ensures pets receive the care they need, in a trusted environment, supporting the wellbeing of both animals and their owners
The StreetVet Portsmouth Team has built strong relationships with local homelessness services which have been vital in supporting the volunteers as well as local patients in the community. Our partner practice in the area is Harbour Vets, and they have been fantastic at supporting our clients with additional veterinary care when their pets need more treatment than we are able to provide at an outreach clinic. The StreetVet Portsmouth Team are a dedicated group of volunteer vets, veterinary nurses and support volunteers, including StreetVet's Clinical Case Team Lead who is a veterinary nurse.
Our volunteers provide a vital role in helping us to deliver our support. There are lots of different ways you can volunteer with StreetVet - find out more on our Volunteer page.
